Inventor Jerome Case established the business of CASE in Racine, when he started the building of threshing equipment. Later the company gained recognition globally as the first maker of steam engines for its agricultural use. In time, the business grew to become the world's biggest manufacturers of steam engines.
Case had established themselves in the construction equipment industry by 1912. They became a producer of road building machinery including road graders and steam rollers. Case grew their construction machinery company through various acquisitions, beginning with the American Tractor Corporation in the year 1957. Case had expanded their business by the middle part of the 1990s to become the leading producer of light-sized to medium-sized construction equipment.
Case merged with the corporation New Holland during the year 1999 and together they became CNH Global. This business became responsible for advertising several of the globe's leading brands of construction and agricultural machinery.
