Bud Bushnell established Genie Industries in 1966, after he bought the manufacturing rights to a material lift that functioned on compressed air. The name Genie originated from the "magic in the bottle" that was used to lower and raise the hoist. This mechanism really impressed lots of customers and therefore, the name was established.
Genie expanded operations and established itself into different new markets, as the demand for work lifts and platforms grew. Over time, as the requirements for new machinery to meet numerous applications grew, the company made itself recognized in numerous new markets. Like for instance, Genie went into production with stick booms, telehandlers, man-lifts, articulated booms and light towers.
Due to the economic recession in the start of the 2000s, Genie decided to obtain a partner who held the same values. They partnered up along with Terex Corporation. This company has a history acquiring machine manufacturers throughout the world who proved to be a good business match. Genie Industries was sold during the year 2002 and became a part of Terex Corporation.
Because of the Genie name and its solid reputation in the workplace, it was decided to maintain the Genie brand name as part of the Terex Aerial Work Platforms. This was just decided after the initial few years following the sale. Therefore, all Genie equipment continue to be marketed under the Genie brand.
The company takes great pride in listening and taking advise from their customers. Genie has always been continually devoted to improving the efficiency and quality in addition to minimizing wastes. Even long after the sale has been closed, the company focuses on providing outstanding support. These are the very work practices which have made Genie a trusted brand over the past decades and continue to keep their reputation for quality and top-of-the-line machines.
Genie's Bi-Energy and DC equipment are emission-free, quiet machinery capable of working in delicate work environments.
